This past weekend was the famous Las Vegas Rock ‘N Roll Marathon, held at night under the neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip. The whole boulevard is closed as well as many connecting streets…So what do we do at Viva Las Vegas Weddings? Close the chapel and take a day off! (Except for a small staff answering the phones to help wedding couples planning upcoming ceremonies with us.) Since our limousines can’t easily ferry couples to the chapel, and traffic all around us is a nightmare, it just makes sense. As for the day off, Ferris Bueller has nothing on us! (Some of what we did will remain under wraps…)
Several Viva Las Vegas weddings staffers and chapel owners Ron Decar and Jamie Richards spent the Rock ‘N Roll Marathon day off at the BALLET! Wedding coordinator, Rachel, seen above, center, had staged a ballet for Nevada Ballet Theatre that she had performed during her long career with the renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company. It was one of those rare occasions that Viva staffers could go on a “field trip” together—since everyone enjoys different days off most weeks of the year. Rachel’s work, Company B, was definitely the highlight of the program, a 1940s World War II tribute, set against the backdrop of vintage Andrews Sisters songs.
Besides the beautiful and talented Rachel, many of our other crew have had careers in the performing arts as singers, dancers, ice skaters, including bosses Ron and Jamie, who performed together as lead singers and dancers in several Las Vegas production shows. In fact, it was Ron’s moonlighting at OTHER chapels as an Elvis impersonator that led to his idea to open not only a traditional Las Vegas wedding chapel, but one with Elvis and a wide range of Themed Weddings, too. With all that theatrical background, Ron’s vision has paid off in the creation of all the elegant, fun and imaginative wedding packages at Viva Las Vegas Weddings!
From all reports, the marathon was a huge success and will continue to grow each year. For all you racing rock ‘n roll fans, hey, we offer Rock ‘N Roll Themed Weddings at the chapel, of course. (Maybe next year a wedding or vow renewal ceremony during your marathon weekend?) We go all out with the smoke and theatrical lighting, plus the rockin’ legend of your choice (impersonator version) to serve as your wailing minister! See an Alice Cooper wedding below:
